About the Brussels School of Governance

The Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) is recognised by the European Commission as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. Jean Monnet Centres of Excellence are hubs for European Union studies funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme.

Our programmes are grounded in the expertise of four research centres that shape our teaching with cutting edge knowledge. Students benefit from insights on digital transformation, sustainability transitions, migration and diversity, as well as contemporary security and diplomacy. This research-driven foundation ensures that learning is directly informed by the latest developments and real-world challenges.

The in-house expertise of the BSoG is further strengthened by a close collaboration with an international network of partners, such as the United Nations University (UNU-CRIS), NOVA University of Lisbon, University of Warwick and the EUtopia European university network.

At the BSoG, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our students are part of a multicultural, inclusive, and engaged community, with opportunities to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities.

Student clubs are dynamic and evolve each year to reflect the diverse interests of our student body. Among the most popular are the Model United Nations (MUN) and Model European Union (MEU) events and Debate Clubs, which thrive in a school closely connected to European institutions and the United Nations. From simulating global debates in Madrid or Paris to representing EU delegations in New York or Brussels, students immerse themselves in international diplomacy and policymaking. These experiences go beyond simulation, offering opportunities to develop leadership, strengthen negotiation skills, and build lasting friendships with peers from across the globe.

Students looking to represent their peers can join the Student Government, which connects the student body, faculty, and administration while safeguarding students’ academic interests and rights.

In addition, students can actively engage with prospective applicants by becoming BSoG ambassadors during Open Days, campus visits, and education fairs. Everyone is welcome to get involved, contribute to student life, and leave their mark on the BSoG community.

"While many courses offer an understanding of how the EU works, the Advanced Master in European Governance takes you a step further by helping you understand what really matters in policymaking: the narratives, discourses, and dynamics shaping a policy. I particularly appreciated the hands-on approach of the programme, which went beyond theoretical knowledge. And if you are looking for an international classroom with diverse perspectives, this is the place to be."

Meet Maya, one of our MA in Global Security and Strategy graduates. In this interview, she reflects on her journey at our School, what motivated her to choose this programme, how the MA has enhanced her knowledge in the field, the sense of community and opportunities she discovered here, and her most memorable moments - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOVNyLljC_0

"As a BSoG alumna of the Master's in Diplomacy and Global Governance program, I would recommend BSoG to students seeking a meaningful and hands-on education in international relations. I appreciated the expertise of the professors and how their experiences in the field informed their teaching; I often draw on their example in my current career in Higher Education. As an American student, earning my master's abroad is one of my biggest accomplishments. The team at BSoG made accessing my education seamless, and once in Brussels, I thrived in the small classes and formed lifelong friendships with the other international students."
