"I completed my BA in History in 2020 and my MA in History in 2021. I chose to stay at Lancaster for my MA because of the bespoke nature of the course. The ability to tailor my course to focus on heritage and early modern elements was particularly appealing. Studying at Lancaster afforded me a number of opportunities that have been invaluable to me in pursuing a career in museums.

I now work at The National Football Museum within the Collections team as a Curatorial Coordinator. My role is split between the museum in Manchester and its archive in Preston, and it’s great to be able to use skills and experience from both of my degrees every day. My role is a varied one, ranging from dealing with loans to and from other institutions, new acquisitions, and supporting exhibitions, to general collections management duties like environmental monitoring and object movement control. I also get to work with lots of volunteers and placement students, as well as researchers who use our archive on a weekly basis.

A personal highlight so far has been going out to the FIFA museum in Switzerland to courier a pair of football boots for an exhibition last summer. Studying at Lancaster really developed my intellectual curiosity, which is a must have when working with collections." - Elisha, MA History, 2021

'The MSc in Applied Econometrics program has been the perfect opportunity to improve my econometric skills and apply them to real economic problems. I really appreciate the mix between theoretical and applied content. The courses taught by top-ranked econometricians from the academy and industry take the program to another level. The recorded lectures and the additional lab sessions allow tutors to cover several topics without sacrificing academic rigor. '

My time at Lancaster has helped me immensely for my future career in volcanology. I have had the opportunity to learn from the brightest minds in their field, allowing me to develop my skills in analysing volcanic deposits to decipher the history of volcanic eruptions. The highlight of the course was the week-long trip to Sicily to visit Mt Etna, exploring past volcanic eruptive deposits and discuss mitigation strategies for potential future hazards. These trips helped to put what I learned in class into practice and was a great help overall.

The programme helped me to manage change and understand what is motivating some resistance to change. My line manager can see the benefit of the programme to support my change project and recognises that over the last 10 months I am confident in my new role.

Property Consultant at Ridge and Partners
"Undertaking the MSc Statistics course at Lancaster University has provided me with a diverse range of cutting-edge skills that have opened doors to numerous working disciplines, such as medical statistics, research, and data analytics. By exploring niche areas, I quickly learnt to rely on my own abilities to complete work – a skill that has helped me to succeed in a professional environment. The course required plenty of coding, which I have found is fundamental to a career in data analytics."

"Even as a postgraduate living off campus, being a member of Graduate College gives me an instant identity. It makes a big institution feel small and welcoming. That belongingness is a huge support system." - Hongyan Xue, PhD Film.

“My course has played a huge role in developing both practical and professional skills. I’ve learned how to write academically at a level suitable for publications, as well as how to critically analyse literature and present complex ideas clearly.” - Majka Ciepielewska, MSci Biomedicine.
