The University of Hertfordshire is a modern, career-focused university, ranked 37th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2027. Based in Hatfield, just 25 minutes from London by train, our vibrant campus community gives students the best of both worlds, with green spaces and everything you need on campus, alongside easy access to the opportunities, employers and experiences of the capital.
With career development at the heart of our postgraduate programmes, our courses are shaped by industry and professional practice to help students build specialist knowledge and develop skills they can take into the workplace. We offer a wide range of taught and research degrees, with flexible study options available to fit around work and other commitments.
All on-campus postgraduate taught students can access a guaranteed online internship, with more than 250,000 opportunities across 18 career fields. Completed 100% online and flexibly around your studies, internships help you gain valuable experience, develop in-demand skills, strengthen your CV and expand your professional network. 96% of Herts postgraduates are in work or further study within 15 months of graduating (Graduate Outcomes 2026).
Our students learn in modern spaces designed to bring their subjects to life, following £250m of investment in facilities. From science and engineering laboratories and healthcare simulation facilities to creative arts studios, specialist workshops and a full-scale courtroom, students can put their learning into practice throughout their studies.
Herts continues to grow and invest in new areas of teaching. Hertfordshire Medical School opened in 2026, initially welcoming international students to our Medicine MBBS programme. Delivered with support from City St George’s, University of London, the programme combines rigorous academic learning with clinical training, giving students access to specialist facilities, a diverse international cohort and early clinical placements from year one.
Our academics are leaders in their fields, driven by curiosity and committed to research that makes a difference in the UK and around the world. Herts is ranked 62nd out of 129 institutions for research excellence, with 78% of our research rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021). Postgraduate research students can develop their expertise as part of this active research community, working alongside academics whose work has real-world impact.
We also offer a range of financial support to help make postgraduate study possible, including postgraduate loans, scholarships and bursaries, depending on eligibility. University of Hertfordshire graduates may also be eligible for a 20% tuition fee discount on eligible postgraduate courses.
