The School of Education is one of the largest educational departments in the UK. It has a well-established reputation for the quality of its research and teaching which focus on issues relevant to teacher training and the improvement of education nationally and internationally.
The School maintains and develops partnerships with schools and other educational agencies to inform and influence policy and practice, such as the prestigious National College for School Leadership. The School of Education is a major provider and facilitator of in-service and pre-service education and training for teachers and other educators. It is an internationally recognised centre for research, curriculum and professional development and training.
Our facilities are truly world-class. The School of Education is located on a £50 million campus, which houses state-of-the-art facilities.
Students who meet the general entry requirements for the Masters courses can now choose to register for a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma or Masters level qualification. Students can progress from a Certificate to a Diploma without the award of a Certificate, or from the Diploma to an MA without the award of the Diploma. Please note that official approval is required for the transfer from the Diploma to the MA.
We currently have 700 registered students engaged in research, Masters level study, or postgraduate teacher training. Two-thirds of our students study part-time. Approximately one-third are from overseas. International students are required to provide evidence of competence in English i.e. a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (with 6.0 on the written test), or equivalent when registering for a Masters/Diploma/Certificate programme.
