As an undergraduate student, I was always fascinated with the amazing possibilities presented by Additive Manufacturing and its unique ability to rapidly produce complex 3D models. I heard about the course as an undergraduate student at Loughborough University and was immediately interested because of the university’s reputation and the speciality of the course.

Academically, the course helped me gain a general understanding of the stem cell field. It helped me gain confidence, communicate clearly and prepared me for the outside world. Before starting, I had no experience working in a lab, so during the year, I learned and developed a wide range of practical lab skills. Without them, it would have been impossible to aim for my PhD.

My favourite modules are International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law. Both are case-based and full of conversations about the reality of implementing the law in the modern world. I love the deeper discussions we have on the course, we often discuss human rights issues, not only from the standpoint of legal documents but also from the actual realities of life. I find it very interesting, and it gives me the drive to study the problems further.

The knowledge of the school's academic staff and research centres, in particular, the Asia Research Institute, have provided me with invaluable training and guidance in pursuing my research work. The support offered for postgraduate research students, such as the weekly PGR colloquium, keeps me connected with the academic community and compels me to focus on completing my work. The MRes is preparing me for future work in a research institute and academia.

I see learning ancient languages like a puzzle, and I think that helps with problem solving. I have better initiative now, because I know how something fits in Latin and Greek and that can transfer to the everyday.

My degree gave me career opportunities in cultural institutions across America. I currently work at an art museum in Ohio. Without the research skills and degree I earned from the University of Nottingham, I wouldn't have qualified for this role.

The biggest difference I’ve noticed with the MA has been the interdisciplinary feel. You’re having to engage with not just the information, but the theory that goes behind it and the different approaches – whether from a sociological, political, historical or psychological perspective. It’s learning where history fits within a broader understanding.

This programme is incredibly well-structured. It had the right balance of theoretical and practical approach with an ample opportunity for research and healthy discussion on the topics. In addition to that, the course had a very holistic design with adequate emphasis on all aspects of human resources.

It has always been a dream of mine to study abroad at a prestigious university that allows exploration of the field of microbiology. The highlight of the course was having a suite of research projects to choose from while given the opportunity to learn and work with leading experts in the field.

Not only is there a diverse set of modules in this course, but there are also a number of business engagement projects where we will be involved in real businesses, discussing with employees the problems that the company is experiencing, and trying to solve them. Both my university tutor and my school-based mentors provided me with as much support as I needed. This helped me settle into university and placements easier. They were always on hand to provide feedback for lesson plans and my own academic writing. There was never a time on this course where I felt unsupported by the tutors and mentors around me – they are truly the people that got me through the course.

The way we were taught to analyse an economic problem and draft an economic argument has been especially useful in my everyday work. In my job, I consider how competition is affected by agreements between firms, by firms' conduct and by mergers. I conduct economic analysis for market studies, competition and consumer enforcement cases and mergers.

The course provides you with more than just the knowledge required to get started in the financial industry. It certainly met my expectations in terms of depth and application to real scenarios.

During my masters, I was on the executive committee for two student societies. Although this was a big commitment, it was thoroughly worth it. I gained first-hand experience of creating and executing marketing materials and campaigns.

The aim is to provide the sports and healthcare industries with non-invasive, highly accurate, and reliable means of measuring physiological quantities, such as respiration rate, lung capacities, and blood oxygen saturation in real-time.

Nottingham not only exposed me to a broad range of cultures through studying with so many international students, but also helped me move from a very analytical undergraduate to a more policy-focused outlook. I am now Deputy Country Director for the Clinton Health Access Initiative, supporting the Ministry of Health and Sanitation daily on how to save lives.

I cannot emphasise enough the amount of support available on the course. I always felt that there was someone to turn to. My university tutor, and other tutors on the course, checked in frequently and were always willing and available to discuss or help with any issues or concerns. In addition to academic support, they were incredibly helpful when it came time to look for a job, helping with cover letter writing and mock interview sessions. My school-based mentors in both placements were also fantastically supportive. Their positive feedback gave me the confidence to keep pushing myself, and through their guidance and advice have helped me develop into the teacher I wanted to be.

This course has given me the opportunity to learn about the latest technologies in renewable energy and how they can be implemented into the built environment. I have really enjoyed this course; especially the variety of content that has been taught with such passion from the staff.

My graduate school experience at the University of Nottingham was incredible. I am grateful to the Architecture and Sustainable Design family for mentoring and offering significant learning resources that were above and beyond their usual roles and helping me to prepare for my career after graduating. The master’s program was both flexible and rigorous, enabling me to reach my best potential. I like the course content, which placed equal focus on technical and practical knowledge, as well as the unique real-life project-based approach for the studio work.

The Business Practice Week was very well timed and each of the visits made a lot more sense with what we’d learned the month before. The businesses we visited were very varied and helped us with a wider perspective on different kinds of businesses. It was one of the highlights of the MBA programme.

The best thing about completing a research masters in geography is that it gives you the opportunity to further specialise in a particular topic that you especially enjoyed learning and researching about. As a result, you get to really enjoy the process throughout the year. It also provides a real insight into what a PhD entails, as you can transfer from an MRes to a PhD if you wish to do so.

My dissertation topic was in ‘environmental psychology’ which really fuelled my passion for sustainability. When I came across this course, it merged my interests of psychology with environmental issues, as well as providing an array of employability skills.
